Story that tells
The baskets, called "cofos" by the old fishermen, are made from the fiber of the carnauba palm and generate income for families in Ilha Grande de Santa Isabel, in the Delta of Parnaíba, Brazil, supporting these families’ ability to remain in the region.
The fiber is sustainably harvested and woven by women aged 15 to 65, who organize themselves into artisan associations.
The carnauba weaving technique has Indigenous origins and is passed down from generation to generation, carrying the families’ stories and affections.
After being harvested, the fiber is sun-dried, dyed, and woven, transforming into beautiful baskets, trays, and placemats — unique and exclusive pieces!
